    ACA Marketplace basics

When you can sign up for health insurance

Most people can only buy or change a Marketplace (ACA) plan at certain times of year. Here’s when you can enroll in Michigan.

    Open Enrollment

    Starts November 1 each year

Anyone can sign up for or change a Marketplace plan. Deadlines can change from year to year, so reach out early to make sure you’re covered.

    Special Enrollment

    After a life change

Lost job-based coverage, moved, got married, or had a baby? You may be able to enroll outside Open Enrollment, usually within 60 days of the event.

    Medicaid

    Any time of year

Depending on your household income, you or your children may qualify for Michigan Medicaid, including the Healthy Michigan Plan. We’ll let you know if it might be an option.

Individual & family health insurance questions

How much does health insurance cost in Michigan?

Marketplace prices depend on your age, ZIP code, household size, tobacco use, and the plan level you choose. Many people qualify for premium tax credits based on household income, which can lower the monthly cost a lot. We’ll check what you qualify for.

What’s the difference between Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum plans?

The metal levels show how you and the plan split costs. Bronze plans have lower monthly premiums but higher costs when you get care, and Platinum plans are the opposite. Silver plans can come with extra savings on deductibles and copays if your income qualifies.

Can you make sure my doctors are in-network?

Yes. Before you enroll, we check that the doctors and hospitals you use are in the plan’s network, so there are no surprises.

Does it cost more to buy health insurance through an agent?

No. You pay the same premium whether you enroll with us or on your own. Insurance companies pay us, so our help is free.
